The 9907-163 controller is designed to control a single or dual (split) actuator steam turbine (a 505XT version is required for an extractive steam turbine). The 505 is field programmable, allowing a single design to be used in many different control applications and reducing cost and delivery time. Woodward Governor uses menu-driven software to guide field engineers in programming controls to specific generator or mechanical drive applications. The 505 can be configured to operate as a standalone unit or combined with a distributed control system in a plant.
The 505 is a field-configurable turbine control and operator control panel (OCP), integrated in a single package. The 505 has a comprehensive operator control panel on the front panel, including a two-line (24 characters each) display and a set of 30 keys. This OCP is used to configure the 505, make in-line program adjustments, and operate the turbine/system. The OCP’s two-line display displays easy-to-follow instructions in English, allowing the operator to view the actual and set values from the same screen.

The 9907-163 and 505 controllers now use special polyacrylate conformal coating materials. As a result, this coating protects its internal circuit board from corrosive environments. This new polyacrylate material replaces the previous silicone conformal coating. This improves the barrier between the board components and the sulfur-based gas. 505 reference products with this coating will have a label on the side that reads “Sulfur Resistant Conformal Coating”
